Acronis Disaster Recovery Service

Overview

Acronis Disaster Recovery Service (formerly nScaled DRaaS) supports organizations with very low tolerance for the unavailability of data and business-critical systems.
We will replicate your systems, storage and the installed software onto an on-premises appliance and into one of our cloud data centers. In case of an outage, we can restart your servers locally or in our cloud so you can continue providing IT services to your internal and external constituents until you can safely fail back. Whether you need to recover a single file, a database, or an entire server – it is as easy as a push-of-a-button. Acronis Disaster Recovery Service ensures that your business stays in business by providing a flexible, pay-as-you-go service.

Cloud is the Platform

Hear it first-hand: Cloud is the reliable, safe, high performance platform for Disaster Recovery, delivered “as a Service”.

Recorded live in March 2015, this webinar explains the vision, the technology, and the best practices for Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) from the point of view of a market analyst (Forrester Research), a solution vendor (Acronis), and a customer who is using the solution and can share their experience (Austin Ventures).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acronis’s Mission?

A:Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art, easy and secure business continuity solutions focused on data services. We provide online backup, disaster recovery and cloud storage at unparalleled efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

What are Acronis’s primary offerings and benefits?

A:We provide (3) basic things: online backup, disaster recovery and data storage / archiving. The main benefits of our solutions are industry-leading recovery times, start-of-the-art security, intuitive and web-based administration and management controls, automated and non-invasive testing and systems monitoring, and 27×7 customer care.

Who are Acronis’s customers?

A: Our clients include law firms, financial and professional services, health care and manufacturing companies and more.

How long has the company been in business?

A: Acronis was founded in 2003.

What is an LCA?

The LCA, or Local Cloud Appliance, is the hardware installed into your LAN or existing data center.

Once powered by nScaled, you either run in a hybrid or private cloud configuration.

If running hybrid, you run (3) instances of any given piece of data: Production, your local backup, and your remote backup. The LCA stores your local backup and your remote backup resides in our data centers.

If running fully private i.e. with nScaled integrated directly with your storage systems, you still run (3) data instances but differently: Production, your local backup (primary site), and your remote backups at your own secondary site(s).

What NAS and SAN hardware are supported?

Our solutions are hardware-agnostic, supporting all major storage platforms.

What file and data types are supported?

Our File Recovery product supports most, generally all common, file types. This includes Microsoft Office documents (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) as well as PDFs, MP3s etc.

Our full-featured configurations support all data stored on a given physical or virtual server.

Do I need VMware infrastructure to use File Recovery?

VMware ESX(i) and vSphere infrastructure are required to host the CloudHub.

How quickly can I get installed?

We’ve optimized our on-boarding process such that for new client installations, full disaster recovery is typically doable within weeks. Comparatively more basic, our file recovery solution can be applied within hours.

What’s meant by “hybrid” cloud, exactly?

We refer to our default architecture as “hybrid” in that it typically involves leveraging both on-premises and off-site (remote) server-based cloud systems, providing the scalability and flexibility that public clouds are known for but also the security and stability that is normally only available via private cloud setups (at comparatively much higher cost).

The only exceptions where our platform isn’t “hybrid” are cases wherein we provide components of fully private configurations, which we are able to offer contingent on certain client-side components being in place.

None of our service components or technologies are offered to the general public or on a free or pay-per-use basis, also none of our infrastructure is “community”, i.e. nothing about our platform is shared with any other organizations.

How secure is Acronis; will my firm’s data be safe?

With nScaled your data is extremely safe. For companies requiring offsite backup and recovery systems for regulatory compliance, data security, safety and privacy is the whole point.

We use only SSAE 16 SOC 1 Type II data centers, designed and managed without any compromise of security or redundancy. Our products and platform architecture support the highest industry standards throughout including VPN connectivity, rotating master keys, HTTPS encryption for data in transit and AES for data at rest.

We suggest you review this white paper for more details: Cloud Security and Confidential Data

What about compliance?

We help firms protect data and business applications with backup and disaster recovery solutions that deliver 15 minute recovery times and ensure compliance with government regulations, including Sarbanes-Oxley, Gramm-Leach Bliley and others. In applying customized configurations we regularly work closely with new clients to map point-by-point how our platform maps to compliance with regulations like HIPAA, ISO/IEC 27001:2005, ISO9001:2008, PCI_DSS and more.

Couldn’t I just build my own DR system?

Setting up a remote, offsite backup, disaster recovery and storage data center for your business continuity plan isn’t easy and it isn’t inexpensive. You need rack space, power, cooling, bandwidth and networking just to have a basic environment. Then you need to add servers, storage, virtual machines, Active Directory, VLAN, firewall, and intrusion prevention. And it has to be secure, reliable and scalable.

nScaled provides a complete infrastructure stack, offering customers a pre-built, pre-configured virtual data center priced for less than what it would cost were they to build and manage one themselves. Our clients choose us so they can keep their internal expertise focused on things that can only be managed internally, also for cost savings, simplicity and speed of deployment that trumps insourcing options.

Moreover, the security of our platform equals that of alternative, in-house approaches — In cases where new clients on-board moving off of tape or other antiquated methods, they effectively get a security upgrade.

What makes Acronis different than other providers?

There are many reasons to choose us over other vendors who claim to offer comprehensive online backup, disaster recovery and data storage solutions.

At the products level, our admin console provides a level of administrative visibility, control and transparency that is one-of-a-kind. With nScaled you know your company is protected because you can see it working, moreover you’re always in hands-on control. Also, we support both full disaster recovery system build-outs (complete data infrastructure virtualization) and entry-level approaches focused on file recovery to start.

Additionally, our platform was born in the cloud, specifically for business continuity services and originally for the Legalspace — protecting some of the most sensitive data imaginable. We’re not an older-school hardware company expanding into the cloud, nor are we a public cloud offering built originally for a different primary function (e.g. file sharing or cheap storage) with DR subsequently attempted as an add-on.

What’s more, our SLAs are the strongest in the business. For example, other vendors may limit their accountabilities to cases where your data resides across most or all of their sites.
